My First Blog

Ok, so here goes. My first Blog.

I’m not much of a writer, well not that I know of yet, and the thought of myself as a ‘blogger’ makes me slightly cringe. I mean, my day job involves working with numbers and spreadsheets ffs (well it did until 9 months ago) – no previous creative or editorial experience here. But as a new mum, like many others, I have experienced so much over the last 18 months that it seems a waste not to share it.

Anyone that knows me knows how much I love to plan and how much I love to research EVERYTHING. I like to be fully informed of all possible choices or outcomes when making a decision or embarking on a new experience, be it a holiday somewhere new, what type of tap I should purchase for my new kitchen sink, or how I am going to give birth. So as soon as I found out I was pregnant, the googling began and the spreadsheets were set up.

So was I fully prepared for giving birth? Of course I was. I had an outfit packed for each of the three stages of labour, an outfit to change into once I had given birth, and of course my going home outfit. How many of them did I wear? I was in hospital gowns from the moment I entered the hospital until I left 4 days later (more on my birth story another time).

Ok, so the research into ‘what I should wear for giving birth’ failed me, but you get my gist – I literally googled everything, so I have a lot to share with you.

And if nothing else, this blog will serve as a memoir of my experience for me and my baby. Already I feel like I am forgetting things, time is going too quickly. He is only 9 months but I find myself saying things like ‘when he was little’. So in me trying to capture these memories, I hope that you may pick up some advice, or just find comfort in reading or relating to my experience.

Until next time,

Love S xx
